Meet Mike Salmon, 2009 NGC Judge
I started keeping Glosters in 1976. Initially I was in partnership with Keith Lowe and over the years I have enjoyed success on the show bench at all levels from local CBS shows to winning several all Gloster shows in the UK over the years, along with winning specials at the English and Scottish National Shows and also specials at the IGBA Show. The Salmon and Lowe partnership was disbanded many years ago and I exhibited in my own name for many years. However I have been in partnership with Paul Rutland (Salmon and Rutland) for 10 years, although in recent years we have reduced the size of our stud significantly.
For several years I was the Chairman of the IGBA and Keith Lowe and I were two of the main players in initiating the IGBA Show in the mid 80’s. Whilst I was not only Chairman of the IGBA, I was also the first show manager and held that position for many years.
For many years I have always been involved with the Gloster Convention and was Chairman of the Convention for 10 years until 4 years ago. In recent times I have taken a step back from these posts and I am now only Chairman of the Midland Gloster Canary Club.
I have judged extensively throughout the UK having done hundreds of CBS shows and have also judged almost all of the All Gloster shows within the UK including the IGBA (twice) the English National (twice) and the Scottish National. I have also judged on numerous occasions in Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Italy. Whilst this will be my first time in America I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of my old friends within the Gloster fancy, such as Harry Marriott, Nick Barrett and Bob Hall who have had the pleasure of judging in America and I am looking forward to seeing the Glosters and I am confident that I can do a good job for you.
